Welcome to Wesley DC’s Office of Residence Life!
We believe that living on campus offers a unique opportunity to build community, fostering fellowship and the practical application of theology as you journey through your seminary education. Our goal is to provide a safe, welcoming, and comfortable home where you can grow academically, spiritually, and personally. Through various fellowship opportunities, we hope you will connect deeply with others and experience the love of God throughout your time at Wesley DC.
Housing Rates
Housing rates are based on three key factors:
- The current fiscal year
- Your specific housing assignment
- The billing term for your residence hall
Wesley DC’s fiscal year runs from July 1 to June 30, with new housing rates taking effect each July 1. This date also marks the start of the Summer II billing term for all residence halls.
Because each residence hall operates on a different billing schedule, we encourage you to carefully review the chart below for specific term dates related to your assigned building.
For financial planning purposes, housing rates are listed for both the current and upcoming fiscal years as they become available.
Note: Billing terms reflect the financial calendar, not your actual move-in date.

Permanent Residency Housing
- On-campus housing for Wesley DC or other graduate students that is considered by the student and by Wesley to be the student’s primary residence.
- Student housing that requires a minimum one semester commitment.
- May be assigned in the Carroll Residence Hall, or the New Residence Hall for Wesley DC students, or Straughn Dormitory for local graduate students.
Short-Term Housing at Wesley DC
Wesley DC offers convenient and affordable short-term housing options designed to support students enrolled in intensive or low-residency programs.
Whether you’re a Doctor of Ministry or Course of Study student, or a commuter with a nearby permanent address who needs occasional housing during Fall and Spring semesters, J-Term, or Summer terms, we provide accommodations to make your time on campus comfortable and accessible.
These options are priced competitively to support your focus on intensive study while you’re here.
Guest Housing at Wesley DC
Wesley Theological Seminary has three residence halls for students, two of which occasionally have vacancies during the course of the year. Using these empty spaces, Wesley DC is able to provide accommodations to short-term seminary guests at a reasonable rate for our area.
Please note this service is one of hospitality–we are not a hotel or hostel and guest housing as a priority is second to the needs of our permanent student residents. To that end, we ask that guests plan to check in before 8 pm, as our student resident managers handle after-office hours check-ins, and that all requests be made with no less than two weeks between request and check-in date.
Who is Eligible?
Priority consideration for guests requesting guest housing is given to: educators with active engagements at the seminary, prospective students or faculty (at the behest of the admissions office and dean’s office), Wesley alumni, guests of faculty, administrative staff, current students or residents, and officials of The United Methodist Church. Additionally, active students in good standing at American University in the MSOD program are also eligible.
Limitations
Guest housing is not available during Doctor of Ministry terms (typically the first two weeks of January and the second and third weeks of May), the month of May, during the Global Asian DMin session (typically the last two weeks of June), Course of Study terms (the month of July) or during the winter holidays (the last two full weeks of December and the weekend that precedes it).
Making a Request
The housing office accepts guest housing reservation requests made online. Please note that we require a minimum of two week’s time between the date your request is submitted and the date you plan to check-in to consider your request.
Guest housing is limited and fills up quickly. Your request will be processed and you will receive a confirmation email with an invoice, instructions for payment and check-in. This process usually takes one week, but can take longer depending on the holidays of the seminary and the current demands within the housing office. The housing office does not process requests on weekends.
Amenities
Each guest apartment is outfitted with a private bath and kitchen or kitchenette (minimal dishes and cookware provided). Wireless internet access is available. You will find the wireless password in your room upon check-in. Rooms do not have televisions. Linens are provided.
Occasionally during the academic semester, we are able to offer dormitory rooms with shared bath and access to a shared kitchen. We are also occasionally able to accommodate larger groups. All guest apartments and dormitory rooms are furnished with two twin beds. Maximum occupancy is four persons per apartment, three persons per double occupancy dormitory room (note: it is not possible to provide extra beds, so guests must make their own arrangements if electing maximum occupancy).
Billing
Guests with a current Wesley account, or guests of faculty, administrative staff, students or residents with a current account will be billed for guest housing.
Guests without a current Wesley account, whose reservations are not made through a staff or faculty member are required to provide payment prior to arrival, once confirmation has been received. Payment instructions will be provided. Payment options include Mastercard, Visa, check or money order. Payments may be made in person in the business office, sent by post, or paid by phone.
Rates
Wesley offers competitive rates for our area, with discounts for guests of faculty, administrative staff, currently Wesley students and current Wesley residents.

Eligibility
Any graduate student age 21 or older by the date of move-in may be eligible for housing at Wesley Seminary. Students must be enrolled in 6 credits or more (per fall and spring semesters) and complete the housing application (including background check and interview). Additionally, students must not have on-campus options available to them to qualify.
Location
Wesley Theological Seminary is conveniently located right next door to American University on Massachussetts Ave, NW. A graduate theological school of the United Methodist Church, Wesley Seminary came to Washington, DC from Westminster, MD in 1958. Our land was purchased from American University, a school affiliated with the United Methodist Church. Our shared history explains our ongoing collegiality and occasional partnership.

What's Covered?
One of the greatest benefits of living on our campus is the security of knowing that maintenance-related expenses and tasks are taken care of for you. If you are a resident and have a maintenance or facility issue that needs to be addressed, please complete the Maintenance & Extermination Request Form.
In addition, wireless internet and all utilities are provided. Each student will be provided with a password to access wireless internet.
Dumpsters are located in the Wesley parking lot for students to dispose of trash and recycling. Resident Managers are assigned to live in the building, and all RMs will rotate after-hours duty in case of emergency.
Community Involvement
Residents will be welcomed into the Wesley Community. These students will have access to study in our library, eat in our Refectory and participate in the life of our community. Students will be welcomed at any scheduled community meals, our community worship, and whatever other events occur.
They will be required to attend regular dorm meetings.
Because it is our hope that all residents will not merely be tenants but will be members of our community, students must agree to sign our Covenant of Professional Ethics and Behavior, which governs student behavior and interactions on campus. Violations will be treated in the same manner as violations of Wesley students: consultation with the Associate Dean of Community Life. Additional measures and potentially expulsion from Wesley Campus Housing will be taken if necessary.
