By Car

From Virginia: Traveling through Northern Virginia cities

  1. Follow US-29 to cross the Key Bridge north into Washington, DC.
  2. Turn left onto M St NW, which becomes Canal Road NW.
  3. Bear to the right onto Foxhall Rd NW.
  4. Continue on Foxhall for about 4 miles.
  5. Turn right at the light onto Nebraska Ave NW.
  6. Follow Nebraska NW through one light, keeping in the right-hand lane.
  7. At the second light at Ward Circle/Massachusetts Ave NW, travel counter-clockwise around 3/4ths of the circle.
  8. At Massachusetts, turn right out of the circle past the Katzen Art Center.
  9. Go through the light at the entrance to American University.
  10. Take the next left onto the Wesley campus.

 

From Virginia: Traveling 95 North from points south

  1. Travel I-95 North to the Capitol Beltway (I-495 North).
  2. Exit to the right toward Tysons Corner (not Baltimore).
  3. Stay on the Beltway through Virginia across the Potomac River.
  4. As you enter Maryland, take exit 39, MD-190E/River Rd.
  5. Turn right onto River Rd and travel into Washington, DC.
  6. Follow River Rd for several miles (across Western Ave)
  7. Turn right onto 46th St NW.
  8. Turn left on Massachusetts Ave NW up the hill.
  9. Turn right onto the Wesley campus.

(If you pass American University and find yourself in a traffic circle, you’ve gone too far.)

 

From Maryland: Traveling I-495 South from points north

  1. From I-270S merge into I-495S toward Northern Virginia/Washington.
  2. Take exit 39, MD-190E/River Rd toward Washington
  3. Turn right onto River Rd and travel into Washington, DC.
  4. Follow River Rd for several miles (across Western Ave)
  5. Turn right onto 46th St NW.
  6. Turn left on Massachusetts Ave NW up the hill.
  7. Turn right onto the Wesley campus. (If you pass American University and find yourself in a traffic circle, you’ve gone too far.)

From DC, Maryland & Virginia via rail or bus

The Washington Metropolitan Area Transportation Authority or WMATA is the formal name for the Metrorail/Metrobus system.

  1. You can use cash, debit/credit cards or a SmarTrip® card to pay your fare.

  1. From Tenleytown, you can take one of three free American University shuttles. The shuttles arrive every 8-30 minutes depending on the time of day. 

 

·      The blue shuttle discharges you at the corner of Nebraska & Massachusetts Ave NW, just before Ward Circle.

·      Walk 2 blocks down the hill on Massachusetts Ave NW to Wesley. The campus is on your left.

·      The red express shuttle discharges you in front of the Katzen Arts Center.

·      Walk 1-1/2 blocks down the hill along Massachusetts Ave NW to Wesley. The campus is on your left.

Wesley Downtown is located in the heart of Washington, DC on the corner of Massachusetts Avenue and 9th Street NW.

By Metrorail from all points:

From the Gallery Place/Chinatown station (Red, Green, Yellow Lines): 8 min 

  1. Head west on H St NW toward 7th St NW.
  2. Turn right onto 9th St NW.
  3. Turn left onto Massachusetts Ave NW.
  4. Wesley Downtown will be on the left.

From the Mt. Vernon Square Metro (Yellow, Green lines): 8 minutes 

  1. Head west on H St NW toward 7th St NW.
  2. Turn right onto 7th St NW.
  3. Turn left onto Mt. Vernon Pl NW.
  4. Continue onto Massachusetts Ave NW.
  5. Wesley Downtown will be on the left.

From Metro Center Metro (Red, Yellow, Blue, Silver) 11 min. 

  1. Head west on G St NW toward 12th St NW.
  2. Turn right onto 12th St NW.
  3. Turn right onto New York Ave NW.
  4. Turn left onto 9th St NW.
  5. Turn left onto Massachusetts Ave NW.
  6. Wesley Downtown will be on the left.
  • We suggest you avoid driving to Wesley Downtown unless absolutely necessary.
  • If you choose to drive, visit AAA before leaving to map out the best route for you

Directions from Wesley to Wesley Downtown

By the American University Shuttle and Metrorail:
1. Take the free outbound AU shuttle bus to Tenleytown Metro. Shuttle bus stops are located: 

  • In front of Kogod School of Business (inside the AU driveway off Massachusetts Ave NW across from the AU Katzen Art Center) or
  • At the Metrobus shelter on Massachusetts Ave NW across from the AU Katzen Art Center.
  1. At Tenleytown Metro Station, buy your ticket with cash, debit/credit card or SmarTrip card and take the Red Line Metro towards Glenmont/Silver Spring. 
  2. Exit at Gallery Place/Chinatown at the lighted arc exit. 
  3. Turn left out of the station and walk up 9th St NW north to 900 Massachusetts Ave NW.

By Metrobus from Wesley to Wesley Downtown

You must have exact change or a SmarTrip® card to ride Metrobus 

To 9th Street NW & Massachusetts Avenue NW:
1. Take N4 Bus (Farragut Square) at Massachusetts Ave NW (west side) and 45th St NW. 

  1. Exit at Farragut West Metro Station. 
  2. Walk a short distance east on K St NW to 17th St NW.
  3. Take the DC Circulator Bus (Red, yellow, gray and black buses) toward Union Station. 
  4. Arrive at 9th St NW & Massachusetts Ave NW.

One-way fare: $1.75

To 13th and K Streets:
1. Take N4 Bus (Farragut Square) at Massachusetts Ave NW (west side) and 45th St NW.  

  1. Exit at Massachusetts Ave & 20th St. 
  2. Take D6 Bus (Stadium Armory Station).  Exit at 13th & K St NW. 
  3. Walk east to 900 Massachusetts Ave NW

One-way fare: $1.75

To 9th & H Streets:
1. Take N4 Bus (Farragut Square) at Massachusetts Ave NW (west side) and 45th St NW. 

  1. Exit at Farragut West Metro Station.

  4. Exit at 9th & H St NW.

  1. Head southeast on Massachusetts Ave NW.
  2. Slight left onto Massachusetts Ave NW/Ward Circle NW.
  3. Continue straight to stay on Massachusetts Ave NW/Ward Circle NW.
  4. Keep right to continue on Massachusetts Ave NW.
  5. Turn right onto Wisconsin Ave NW.
  6. Turn left at the 1st cross street onto Garfield St NW.
  7. Turn right onto Cleveland Ave NW.
  8. Continue onto Calvert St NW.
  9. Turn right onto Connecticut Ave NW.
  10. Take a slight right to stay on Connecticut Ave NW.
  11. At the traffic circle, take the 2nd exit
  12. Continue onto DuPont Circle NW.
  13. Continue onto Massachusetts Ave NW – Drive for 0.3 miles.
  14. At Scott Circle NW, take the 3rd exit and stay on Massachusetts Ave NW.
  15. Wesley Downtown will be at the right.
