#4:Discern a potential placement site...
To organize your goals for a your placement, the Worksheet for Seminarian Placement Goals is provided.
Teaching settings consists of sites that are organizations, congregations, agencies, hospitals, nonprofits, hospice or senior care facilities, etc.
Seminarians may determine a placement site to propose for their PMM internship by three methods:
- You might see a site in the PMM Ministry Setting Listed Sites provided on the Blackboard organization PMM-001. To gain access to this list, please contact the PM&M office.
- Your place of employment might be a ministry setting. Please share the webpages Congregations & Nonprofits and Current Learning Partnerships with them and discuss how you will differentiate your usual work from your PMM internship ministry and mission work.
- You might discover a site on your own that piques your interest. If this happens, then it is important to share more information about PMM internships. The webpages Congregations & Nonprofits and Current Learning Partnerships are the best resources to support a site in determining an ability to participate.
As you contact and acquaint yourself with site(s), you might share your profile (Placement application from tab 3), Worksheet for Seminarian Placement Goals, and, if desired, your resume with sites of interest so that the site might learn more about you and contemplate the possibilities for the internship. Schedule time to meet with the site contact and, if possible, the two potential learning partners: for congregations, the lay and clergy learning partners and for nonprofits, the site and mentoring learning partners.
Interviewing and discernment:
- Take time to learn more about the site and its opportunities for ministry engagements and discuss what you are seeking to learn. You might review the site’s webpage and social media.
- Get support from the PM&M office discernment support personnel listed to the right. Email both at the same time.
- Consider the site’s schedule, your class schedule, and the PM&M placement schedule:
-
- Colloquies (your PM&M course) meet on Wednesday afternoons (1:30-3:30 p.m.) or evenings (7:15-9:15 p.m.).
- Share with the site that your learning team—intern, clergy/mentoring partner, and lay/site partner—will need to participate in orientation together during the coming summer months. See Upcoming Events for PM&M placement process dates.
